Not an excuse but reality of most shops. The true problem is the lack of communication not only to you, but between the wrenches/owner of the shop and for that, there is no excuse IMO. Had you known, going in, that the service might be delayed due to more "serious" jobs, you would have had the choice of taking your car elsewhere or making it clear--right then and there-- what your outside time limit would be and the need for updates.

There is no excuse for BS excuses like "waiting for a hose". That should be enough to go directly to the owner, confront him with the conflicting information and demand the return of your car (after paying for service done) right now.

Bottom line, this shop doesn't really need your work so you're treated accordingly.
