And this is what I'd recommend - probably with a strip of thin leather, not the wife's boots (I don't think she owns any anyway).
When Dad bought the 356, his then wife sitched a leather wrap around the wheel and hte passenger's oh-shiat handle, used waxed dental floss as the thread. Back seats and dash look sad due to sun, heat, humidity, and improper storage, the steering wheel still looks fantastic.
