Guys,
Here is my question. If we all cancel our PayPal accounts, WHAT do we use instead?
Most people aren;'t set up to accept credit cards, and you saw the note about American Express not backing up their customer buying used parts.. so where does that leave us?
I will say that I TRY very hard to figure out who I am dealing with before I make deals. This has saved my a lot of headaches [but I have passed on a lot of "good deals"]. Your first hint is a brand new seller or someone you know nothing of refers you to "a friend'. You see is here regularly. I can't remember the last time I bought anything with checking out the seller in some way first.
I am not pretending to know answers. I have lost big on a couple of deals because of this type of situation. Thankfully, a lot of us post about people.. but we all know about some that keep coming back..and back..and BACK ... !! With new IDs and ... above all watch out on craigslist. I see our worst local scammer [North SF Bay area] still in business and knows how to represent himself like he and his parts/engines are the greatest. [Beats the old pre www days.] My first hint on one local guy was when I noticed all the fresh bullet holes in the door of his truck! BTW< if it is local and you get a big burn, you can take them to court AND you can sometimes press fraud charges. Don't expect a lot of help. Most PDs are very reluctant to go with that [as it is too much work and rather difficult] and you have to know the laws and PUSH to get them to do it. I got full restitution from 2 of them because things were getting hot for them. Don't lie down and allow yourself to get screwed when you can pursue them.
I would love to hear anyone's workable ideas.BTW, I have used escrow.com a couple of times. Works great but gets expensive. In recent years questionable sellers refused me on it.
EBay tried to do their own version of PayPal. They could copy only so much of the technology and it was a failure ;-> That was when they bought PayPal. I sure wish it had remained separate.
Glad to see this discussion.
