When you drain the oil, you may not see metal. Get a magnetic probe and stick it inside the transmission and see if it picks up any metal. There's a magnet inside the transmission but it's behind the big round access panel on the passenger side. With this big a noise though, it'll probably be pretty obvious. Good Luck.
