In most cases it will diminish the value. A vehicle is only original once and mint originals will command the highest prices. If you are committed, a repaint in another stock color would probably be best as far as value, but that is just an opinion. I have seen custom R1100S models that I would not give two looks. But then much depends on the quality of the paintwork and the quality of the design.
The matte aluminum finish never appealed to me either. For that kind of money I want it to shine.
