Do whatever you want to make you happy. It is your machine and your decision.

I have a friend who "restores" 60's era Chevrolet cars. He is quite fond of taking interior consoles from an Impala SS and grafting them into Chevy IIs, exterior styling points from all years and grafting them on the Impala and on and on. He totally changes the body colors and always paints every car the same red color that he prefers. He re-covers all the interiors in white. He also likes to paint the stock steering wheels white and graft a big aftermarket Sun tach to all his dashboards.

Having spent upwards of $100k on many of the "restorations," he becomes livid mad when local car shows routinely relegate his works to either no trophy or "honorable mention" status. He dismisses his inability to sell the cars at anything near what he spent on them as market ignorance. He sincerely feels that his cars look much better than anything the factory produced. Oh, by the way, he likes to put power steering on cars that never came that way.

The R1200S is a relatively rare bike, maybe moreso than the HP2. A prospective buyer is likely to be familiar with the bike and be aware of what it is. If other folks are like me, they would resist a bike that had been molested for the desires of the previous owner. I would tend to not want a re-colored R1200S.
