I had a good bike ride today. I think I made the climb in a personal best time and the descent was fun, too -- no rolling chicanes or rocks in the road. The temperature was cooler than the last weekend I was down but it was still blue sky conditions - no fog.
Then, as I was heading home with the bike on the rack on my BMW, I noticed Magnus Walker's 911 (#277) at the Rock Store along with a couple other 911s (Carrera RS replicas). When I was parking Chad McQueen showed up in his early 911 hot rod. It is a 1970 911T with fiberglass fenders and other racing bits. RS flares so it is a sort of early 911ST replica -- from before the flares got so wide. The motor is a 2.2 on carbs I think. Magnus' car is a 1971 911T track car that he uses on the street. Motor is a carbed 2.4. Not sure of the suspensions on either car but expect upgraded torsion bars and dampers and not much else. Rubber bushings probably.
So I went in with Chad (I've met him before and he recognises me on the bike) and was chatting out on the patio with Magnus, Dave Bouzaglou (from TRE Motorsports), one of his friends, and Chad for about a half hour. Dave was driving a Viper Green RS replica since his black 914-6 that he uses for the fun runs has a damaged front spoiler (casualty of the Targa California). His friend was driving a Tangerine RS replica.
Magnus said his video is done but they are debating about how to release it. It might just end up on Youtube or iTunes. He also expressed interest in driving my car but I told him that needs to wait until I get the rear bushings installed. I also would like some stiffer rear torsion bars or softer fronts.
Ah, life in California.
