The US Olympic boxing program has steadily deteriorated over the past several Olympics. 1 medal in 2008. 2 in 2004. 4 in 2000.

Boxing in general is a sport in decline in the US. I don't know if it is the rise of MMA, the disorganization of professional boxing's conflicting titles, or simply not enough exciting, telegenic, popular boxers. You can read various theories here. The State Of Boxing In America - AskMen

Anyway, if a sport has declined a lot and the US has low odds of doing well, it is going to get put on a secondary channel. You can watch all the Olympic boxing you want on CNBC. Its just not on the main NBC channel.

Basketball - did you miss the USA vs France game on Sunday? It was on NBCSN. Tuesday USA vs Tunisia, sure to be a riveting competition. Saturday USA vs Lithuania. More exciting "demonstrations of strength and success by the US".

If you want it, it is there to watch, you just have to look up the listing, which should take less time that it took to write your rant.

They focused too much on the touchy-feely stories of the athletes but played down that whole success thing.
Wouldn't it be so much better if they did away with all those medals and just gave everyone a PARTICIPATION RIBBON?

NBC reluctantly showed a 1 minute clip mentioning Kim Rhode, but you could tell it was very painful for them to show that.
Just in case anyone (everyone) missed her few seconds of fame, here's a recap:

If she had done something as specatacular in a PC wussy sport it would be front page news all over the world and 4 hours of continuous NBC coverage would be dedicated in her honor.
She'd be on the cover of the NYT, sports illustrated, newsweek, and win a nobel prize.
But Nooooooooo.
Checked you-tube, nope. NBC has all clips regarding Ms. Rhode blocked from embedding. Copywrite and all that

BTW how were the boxing matches over the weekend? Musta missed all of those.
Hard to imagine, I can remember a time when boxing was THE major olympic sport with the most coverage, but that was back when men watched sports instead of just women and sissies.

I missed the American basketball team's games too, guess it was too much of an embarrassment for NBC to have the US totally dominate. I'm sure they'll have to show a game or two eventually no matter how much they hate demonstrations of strength and success by the US.
Maybe they'll appologize to the world before the games and just get it over with.
