It was long long ago in my memory but as I remember Photostyler was real competition to Adobe. They had a better program so Adobe bought them and merged the programs to make Photoshop. I am too lazy to Google it all.
I do remember we bought a scanner and software package. My mighty 66 Mhz PC with 4 megs of RAM worked overnight just to rotate a 2,600 x 3,000 pixel scan. The boss let me order 4 more megs for well over a $1,000, (I do mean MEGS not gigs.) With a 8 MB PC I was in high cotton. Until I saved just two of those scans as tiff files and filled up my hard drive.
I used to think a image bigger than 70 MB was a total waste of pixels, and it was back then. Today each frame of film that we scan makes a 1 GIG file. We just flew a job that had over 2,000 images. We can fill up a RAID storage device in no time!
