I mean the electronic stability stuff is always a plus, but I think (my personal opinion of course), that nothing can substitute for physics (car layout) and a driver that knows the car. I've lost newer mustangs (like all of us have) on turns, among other things. I think our cars are more capable than we sometimes give them credit for!
Z4 is almost always going to be a better car then the s2, esp stock for stock. better suspension all round, as in real rear suspension. more rigid monocoque, better springs and dampers (again stock for stock) only real difference is its a bit heavier, but still 50:50. it also has more power to compensate. and while controllable in a spin feels good, the front engine/rear trans gives our cars a much large moment of inertia then the tighter BMW.

the Z4 competes well with the boxster/caymen, it utterly destroys a 25 year old porsche. sorry, i love my 951 more then anyone, but its closer to 30 years old compared to a near brand new car? no contest.

compared to its contemporaries, no problem, smokes em all, but car design has progressed. dead are semi-trailing arm suspensions, even normal passengers cars are as stiffly sprung, damped, and barred as our cars were stock. bigger, fatter, wider and stickier rubber is the norm on even mild performance cars then our cars came with.

and don't tell me i don't know how to drive, won my class several times with this car:
