if you think that a m5 is reallythat much faster than a 540i6 it just shows you realy know nothing about cars . the two cars are classed in the same class when raced . depending on the m5 your talking about it only has 311 hp over 282 of the 540 tork is not much deferent too . weight is the same at 3600 lbs . because you can chip the cars in the SSU class they run in and you can remove the speed limiter of 155 the cars are still in a stock class . the 5 series are also classed with the corvette ,camaro, porsche 911's , lotus v8's and turbos , audi a8's , saleen and rousch mustangs . all lambo models , toy twin turbo's , and the list goes on and on .
back to knowing tracks , what the weather is like hot or a cold day ,tires temps and so on the amount of cars you have to get past all have to do with lap times . if your running there time attack events it is nothing like open track days were every one and there brother is out there with you . but again if you ever run any track events you would know that .
as for me i was a factory driver for a well known major car co. for 4 plus year when i was much younger . when i worked for porsche for 7 years they had 38 factory race drivers and 19 inhouse factory test drivers . being a factory driver is not all that at all . hell audi has 66 of them right now . one of my best friends is one he did the testing on the r8's .
now it has been years from when i saw the top gear show with the ford van . but did she not pass a dodge viper ?
like i said i'm very glad you don't think i turned my fastes time in just under 8 minutes there .
