For me it was always a new school, new kids to meet. Trying to find my way around in a new school with no friends the first few days was the hard part. I remember in 6th grade I rode my bike to school and did the ritual of go to the principle's office and report in. They did not have any records about me.

I had to sit in his office during all the school orientation all the other new 6th grade kids got to see. Once they discovered my dad was Air Force I was a super star to the administration. They saw the big federal tax money the Air Force pays to each school for my education. It was usually way more than any other local student. They would give me a letter for my parents to sign and bug me endlessly until they had it. I did not understand that until many years later. All I knew is I missed all the instructions on going to classes and all the stuff all the other kids knew because their siblings went to the same school. I recovered quickly and fit right in within a week. That fist few days was rough.
That was the year my dad was TDY in Korea so we did not see him except for two days in a year and a half.
