he was referring to removing the plugs to eliminate the compression in the cylinders which allows the motor to spin more rapidly w/ less stress and load on the bearings, the problem w/ cranking w/o the ignition spark w/ the plugs in is that you'll be spraying down the cylinder walls w/fuel washing away the oil leaving them susceptible to scratching while under compression.
