measuring a small hole?

So I've got this old military trainer spoon (Mossberg 44US(c)) with clicky peep sight on the back.

Unfortunately, the little tiny detent and spring that makes the sight click on adjustment went AWOL ...

What tool is used to measure a little tiny hole? I'm thinking something like a pin gauge? Hole is somewhere around 1mm ... but I've not been able to find documentation wiht a specific size.

Also, according to what I've read online I can replace it with a ball bearing if I can find one small enough - do they make ball bearing this size? Should I start tearing apart an old CPU fan or something to find one? Or would a local machine shop type place have something?

Thanks!
