In the words of Rick (on facebook),
Ouch!
I lowsided my bike today on the top sweeper of Mulholland. I think I used a little too much of the edge of the rear tire. The center has no grooves left but the edges have tread blocks so I think I leaned over too far and the tread started to squirm but I did not save it. Normally the rear scrubs a bit approaching the apex and I can control it but this time I was not quick enough.
Good thing is I had a helmet and it was not a high side like Casey Stoner's or Nicky Hayden's at Indy this weekend. Nothing broken on me or the bike.
Bad thing is that I have some pretty good road rash on my right side. Just seconds after the crash I was up and saw blood dripping onto the road. I left my chin up there. As it was happening I was wishing I had one of those BMW/mtb style helmets with the chin guard. Gloves would have been nice as well.
There is a divot in my chin now. I don't think I will have any hair groving back there in a patch about the size of a quarter, just scar tissue.
My jeans are torn up and my shirt is all bloody so I need to replace those now too.
