I used to be a home infusion nurse and I did this all the time. Then technology got even better and we send patients home with pumps that delivers the medication when needed and then they come to the hospital once a day for us to change the bag of medication.
Funny that you mention having a PICC. My medical device that I instruct on is very similar to a PICC. It is in between a PICC and a peripheral IV which is what you had in the hospital. When I read your story about being poked so many times, I said hmmmmm, Glen needs one of our products! Dependent on what your medications are and the length you are going to be on them, my device could have worked just as well. It's called the Powerwand. Google it. I instruct clinicians how to insert it and maintain it.
Happy Healing, Glen! Make sure you do your facial flexing! (BTW, that video is totally weird. Funny that the product doesn't freak me out. It's just as weird as the Shake Weight. The woman in that video freaks me out. Creepy.)
