Upper Canada Region requires #s on the car. I believe most PCA chapters do.
Good point that it seems to be mostly the newer cars involved in the accidents. I think the only older cars I've seen munched at the track were a 993 and a 968 race car. Well, and mine...
I do wonder if a) the folks driving the newer cars can afford not to worry about it, and/or b) the folks driving the older cars know they're much harder to replace, and probably have more of an emotional attachment to the car. Certainly, my car is like my 3rd child, and as a result I don't really drive it beyond 8/10 at the track, especially the corners where the walls are very close.
