There is an electro-hydraulic component to the paddles that needs to be added. The sequential floor-shifter needs a deliberate tug or push when shifting because it's actually connected mechanically with the gear selector fork inside the transmission, whereas the paddles obviously send an electronic signal to some sort of brain that then activates a hydraulic ram or rams that do the actual shifting.
Here's a cool DIY on Rennlist of someone installing the auto-throttle-blip to the sequential shifter. You can see the shift rod that comes from the tranny and hooks up to the base of the shifter.
