I work at a BMW shop, and the Z3 coupes are good cars. What you hear about the rear floor is true. We have seen many with cracked or ripped floors where the subframe mounts.
What kind of coupe is it? That will help answer a lot of your questions. If the car is a 3.0 Auto then I doubt you have problems with the floor. Those typically stem from driving the cars hard and the S54 engined M Coupe/Roadsters had the most problems. The S52 cars still do it, and it's rare to see it on the non-M cars.
Also I highly recommend a prepurchase inspection. I can't tell you how many people we have saved from paying top dollar for junk money pits.
