I was in Washington in mid May of 2000 which was the 20 year anniv of the eruption of Mt St Helens. I was there for work, but had nothing to do for the day, so me and the coworker decided to drive to Mt Ranier. We got lucky, they had just cleared the road that went up and over Ranier of snow. We drove up and over and then decided to drive from there to Mt St Helens. It was a very long day of 11 or 12 hrs of driving, but the views were amazing, the weather was fantastic and the roads were deserted. Mt Ranier and the roads leading up to it were nice, but nothing like Mt St Helens. The rental car was begging for mercy on the way to Mt St Helens.
