You can't go wrong with any of the major brands (DPMS, Bushmaster, Ruger, Colt, Sig, etc.). There is no need to spend more than 1K on a nice rifle, unless you are looking for accuracy. Get a flat-top rifle then an optic (I prefer EOTechs) and you have all you need. Don't fall for the tacticool doodads, they aren't necessary and are mostly worthless/counterproductive.
