He doesn't bother to mention it, but some of the diesels are pushing those numbers already and, while they are more, they aren't subsidized 'hybrid' more and they aren't microcars. Also, where's natural gas in the discussion? Even if only fleets and industrial users (boilers, etc...) move over to NG, that's more petroleum based fuel for the rest of us taking some pressure off.
That said, government intervention is not desirable but neither is heavy dependance on foreign fuel sources. We need to find a balance somehow.
The next 10 years will be interesting.
