did YOU KNOW that MORE FN/FAL's were sold to nations THAN ANY OTHER BATTLE RIFLE??????????
i wonder why.
man with all of this topsy turvey politico crap going, mass murders, and general lack of safety for peoples in non spoon states(windy city), ammo again is getting spendy and SCARCE!
my collecting of spoons has radically changed to collecting AMMO! WTF?
crap IT(ammo) IS AN INVESTMENT NOW!
and its coming time for OJU to finally break down, spend the money and get a dillon reloader. its probably gonna be my xmas prezent to myself. i am no stranger to it and already have my .308 dies and my .338 dies.
wanna damn good PICTURE of .308 ammo and costs PER ROUND updated about every 2 weeks?????????
go to m-14forum.com and click on ammo scroll down and you will see the header re: ammo prices across the nation, surplus, match, plinking etc etc.
right now..............."out of stock" over and over and OVER!
i can remember 35 freeking years AGO, grumbling about .308 surplus ammo being .25 cents a pop every time i fired my newly acquired HK-91!
yeah .25 cents a freeking rd back then. now its more like a $1.00 A POP! YIKKERS!
i'm looking local right now to beat freight costs and cabelas has some bulk federal plinker rds in stock.
ya cant beat a FN, i love some of the DSA selections and am very very tempted before they skyrocket in cost. just to have one and they are a hell of alot of fun, as long as ya clean them like any battle rifle and not shoot the lowest of the low cheapest of the cheap ammo thru them.
the .22 kits for an hk are like $500 bucks or so +/-. a .22 kit for the FN is great way to plink with them.
the 3 main battle rifles of the PLANET didnt get their reputation for ALWAYS GOING BANG because they were POS.
they earned that reputation for being reliable.
HK-G-3
M-14
FN/FAL
but after watching the tests on the HK-416, once again HK has proven they can take anybodies design and IMPROVE THE HELL OUT OF IT so it does always go bang. but once again HK came in at high bidder and lost.
the HK 417 in .308 is a wonderful platform, the FN SCAR is a wonderful platform.
i like the SIG in .223 for a poodle plinker and it would be a damn tough decision between the HK-416 and the SIG. a DAMN TOUGH DECISION. and the LAST THING I NEED IS ANOTHER ROUND TO SUPPORT! hell i wish i could get food stamps for all of my children(spoons).
so being a cheap ass like i am, probably a nice basic, no foo foo crap, except maybe a scope mount on an FN from DSA would suit me fine.
but remember a .223 is MARGINAL on kritters aside from poodles and coyotes(the trickster) and thin skinned deer. i think you would be a very unethical hunter going after antelopezz or elk or big colorado or north rim mule deer or bear with a .223. and YOU would go very very hungry unless a point blank kill shot on bigger kritters as they flip ya off and say adios.
the ENTIRE SECRET TO HUNTING IS KNOCKING THEM DOWN! PERIOD! once that kritter runs, theres no telling where its gonna end up and YOU can be chasing it for miles searching for blood splatter after dark. and more than likely it will become wasted game which really is a SIN!
just remember this with .308 168gr BTHP FEDERALS which i use A LOT! if yer shot is from 1yd to roughly 200 yds on thin skinned kritters(deer), that damn BOOLIT(bullet) is going so damn fast your exit hole will be the exact same as your entry hole unless hitting bone. if ya hit any vitals, the kritter is still gonna pump adrenalin and haul ass off into the next county, unless severe blood loss(heart) occurs.
samo happens with my .338 win mag 250 grains on deer. yes its OVERKILL! bullet is traveling at mega warp 10 speed. if it hits bone, it KNOCKS THEM INTO NEXT COUNTY , and i mean LIFTS THEM INTO THE FREEKING AIR! awesome visual, but a lot of wasted meat.
45/70 on the other hand is such a BIG WAD OF VOODOO POO going slow, just STEAMROLLS THEM and PILE DRIVES THEM INTO THE GROUND! just ask a couple mill-yon indians and buffalo how well they work.
45/70 is my elk/bear/mtn kitty brush spoon. iron sights only.
so each to his own, i just write what has happened to me over the years.
