If you have a family, relative or other elsewhere in the world and willing to share their Dish user name and pw, your'e there. You don't need that Slingbox.
I really despise the cr@p on Dish but have to comply and satisfy for some family in the house. But interesting enough, I can access online - anytime old and new programs, Speed, etc. shows, movies for example HBO for nothing extra. So when traveling, a laptop connected online is all that is needed. They also have some small program to initially download so if you have a slow connection, it prevents jittering and smooths the viewing. Works excellent and in HD too. If you'd like and have a PC with an i5 or i7 proc., use the push to WIDI for TV wireless. For all your local TV news coverage, etc.... well thats easy enough by just going to their site.
