I have owned my 79' now for 15 years. It's been a wonderful car although for the last 2 years she's been driven very very little. I'd love to sell her and move on.. but I can't. I have that emotional attachment to her that doesn't make sense to sever for what $1500-2000?

This might sound rough so I apologise in advance. This has probably been stated here before...
The 928 is a redneck supercar. People buy the car for $2000-3000 (because they can) and get great performance out of it. They drive it until something really big breaks and by that time it has accumulated many many small repairs that were not mission critical.
The 928 was originally the top of the line porsche. It was and still is expensive to fix and maintain (comparatively). Like Ferrari's or Astons, 928's were originally bought by the well to do. Unfortunately the 928 depreciated like a rock while cars such as the testarossa maintained their value (depreciated less). As such, "rich" owners bought them again as 3rd, 4th and 5th owners. High price of admission meant could "afford to fix and repair". 928's dropped in value and it doesn't make sense to spend $1600-2000 to fix a $5000 car.

I used to wait for the 928 to appreciate in value. I'm not sure it ever will. It's not a quintessential Porsche. I've moved on to Ferrari's and if mine is any indication.. half @$$ repairs even happen on FCars. The key is limiting the accumulation of these repairs.
