I had strangers offered to pay in similar situation but a good friend who didn't. I spent couple hundred on repair. When he heard about the repair, he even commented that "you are crazy".
Sometimes people just don't see the need of a smooth paint/body, and don't see the need of being responsibility.
Can you find another less expensive shop to repair that?
