when people ask me how i like my car, i always mention that the thing that surprised me the most was how much i like the braking action of the car. sobamaflyer mentioned the "hand of god" as a metaphor for powerful brakes, and i think that is very apt. with very few exceptions, my 911's brakes are orders of magnitude better than any other vehicle i've driven.

given that you are not seeing anything like this level of performance, i wonder what else might be going on with your car's brakes. since you'll have to rebleed the brakes anyway when changing the rubber brake lines, perhaps you should consider rebuilding the calipers as well. this will allow you to inspect each piston to see if any are corroded and/or stuck to the bore. it will also get rid of more of the old rubber problem. you may also want to look into the master cylinder.

a word of caution here: it can be very hard to remove the flare nuts connecting the brake hard lines to the rubber hose. an 11 mm flare wrench will help, along with soaking the flare nut with the penetrating oil of your choice. heat may help as well.

keep up the good work.
