Back in the late 90's I was in Mountain View, CA for a meeting with a VP at Netscape (remember them?). The company had recently gone public and made a bunch of dot com millionaires. My colleague and I had been shown into the VP's corner office by his secretary while we waited for him. We were looking out his window and laughing about how the parking lot looked like a Porsche dealership. (Best job in the Valley was being a Porsche dealer.)
In one of the front parking spaces was a beautiful late 60's Mercedes-Benz convertible. We were pointing at it when the VP came in and he asked what we were looking and pointing at. We said "There's at least one REALLY smart person that works here -- that's the only car in the parking lot that's actually APPRECIATING in value."
He just got a big grin on his face and said "thanks, that's mine!"
I think about that sometimes. Now I'm the one with the big grin on my face!
