The latch receiver on the car is broken and it allows the latch on the bottom side of the deck lid to slip up and out of the receiver. Maybe these are available somewhere now. 928intl.com had them years ago brand new for $100 or so, but now I'm not sure.
The problem is the jelly like silicone fitting inside the receiver latch breaks into pieces and falls out. It's causes the latch not to fit tightly and therefore the latch won't stay in. I'm going to say about 85% of 928s have this problem or have had this problem at one time. Every nonrunning 928 I've ever seen has this problem.
