I have heard just the opposite: that best practice is to run that motor for a long, long drive so that the core and peripherals all get up to maximum heat.
I brought my #1 cylinder back on line this way (car was abandoned for six months, six more while I negotiated price as it sat outside in my front yard). Empty tank, 20oz, drive to 1/2 tank, refill with premium, then drive the rest of the gas out.
Amazing difference either way. I don't want to think about my K-jetronic seals and rubbers though!
