I test drove a few e39 M5's before . The first one was similar to the condition they showed in the episode. Took it on a test drive with the private party seller who didn't know much about cars. I noticed going up hills that the tach would start climbing even though I wasn't giving it any more gas. The clutch was toast. Had to break it to him and he thought I didn't know what I was talking about. I drove another one that was very nice and a great car. I'm very surprised they didn't need to put a clutch in the wheeler car. From what I've seen and heard, they need to be done almost as often as the brakes in cars that are driven hard. Hard not to do in this car.
