Question After a fix, getting it off again???

I've had my (really nice and excellent, he said, immodestly) '85 Euro Carrera for about a month. Two weeks ago the rearview mirror fell off. No problem, I thought: been there, done that. Bought the adhesive at O'Reilly's. I could NOT, no matter how I tried, get the disc out of the mirror cup, so I just attached the entire assembly and held pressure for 10-15 minutes. I need to mention that my windshield has the plastic inside layer...with a rather ugly oval gouge missing at the mirror location. So I clean the glass and as I said, attach the mirror. Crap. Seems that the angle of the arm is rather important. Now I have a rear view mirror that will NOT adjust for the driver to see rearwards, straight back. I'm kind of used to it, but honestly need to get the mirror off and start again. Is there a solvent that will cut the adhesive without damaging either the windshield inner plastic film or glass??
