gotto keep trying the metal plates top and bottom just a tiny bit at a time the plates move just enough for the white plastic /hook not to catch, unfortunately as it gradually stops catching from being off the plastic wears at the same time from it hitting wrong to many times.

the spring on the mech, if all cleaned out of gunk/junk. might also be able to spring up that little bit more and catch.

sometimes the plates can be too tight too, as what there bolted to , the padding gets depressed and if you loosen a tiny bit , gotto keep trying for that just right spot.

even if you buy new its all a matter of align just right, knowing if you have broken,missing,worn parts is only something youd know if you tried everything still doesnt close.

clean lube everything so youll get the most moving tolerances you can get.

it was terrible terribly tricky getting latch to work, its good havent seen mine in yrs and ill open/close it dozen times a week.
