Correct me here if I'm wrong but didn't the Desmo boxer prove that an opposed twin can't make competitive hp - wasn't it limited to 150 before it was pulling the jugs off the cases? That was throwing everything they had at it.

Please consider yourself corrected. Whether a given jug pulls or not depends on it's overall design, not whether it's a boxer or not (though it does make it tougher).

They really only determined that with similar power and technology, a boxer couldn't be competitive due to aerodynamics. They also hit thermal limitations.

So though I'm more boxer fan that cheerleader, I have to give them credit where it's due.
