Yes there was dark oil inside the IMS. As a matter of fact, some of it is still there. I can collect a small sample for you if interested. I won't remove the seals from the bearing not to disturb any of the forensic evidence.
The reason some of the oil hasn't drained out of the IMS is that once I removed the cover plate, the shaft tilted up a little.

- The crank shaft was locked at TDC
- One exhaust camshaft was locked in
- Both tensioners at the flywheel end were completely removed
If the 3rd tensioner is loading the IMS, it would be a side load causing the other end to shift side ways and not up.
This is the only thing that has me a little concerned right now.
