had a very stressful work week that ended very well and im beaming jerry... im a public works inspector for my home town and oversee field operations on most capital improvement paving projects. as a city guy ive paved just about all types of roadways sans freeway work with the "lowest responsible bidder".. this means ive tried to hold the tiger by the tail with some good, bad, & mostly ugly contractors with the roadways remaining open to public traffic.
this week i was paving the approaches to a newly retrofitted bridge that is a major commute route in the area. about a half a mile from my house no less. the contractor was to grind down the existing asphalt down 2" and overlay with a matching 2" overlay. the grinds ops were nightmare, but the paving went very good. it was a good contractor that i am vary familiar with and this very difficult job went swimmingly. hope im not seemin like an own horn blowin douche,, but a couple beers in my chest is all puffed out and i nailed a very political sticky project... more luck than skill to be sure...
here is what i saw..
grind ops makin traffic..
paving reverse commute direction at around 830Am
commute direction in the afternoon cooling 15 min before we were to be picked up
lil jack olsen style when we's bringing ithome.
1633 ton placed, rolled to 95+% compaction, both north & southbound traffic lanes opened on time... im beaming jerry!
