Depends on where you go and whether you live in a big city or a small town. In small town AL, I was a "Yankee." What? There aren't any Yankees from CA unless they got here by way of East and north of the MD line.

If I had lived in Birmingham, AL, no one would have said a thing. Atlanta GA, even less asked or said. I use the South as an example because, well, it is the South.

Now, if you were born in WY and migrated to MT or UT, I don't think it would amount to anything. Used to be down in OC, CA if you were from New England and wore deck shoes with no socks, you were fooking weird. Now I wear DS with no socks. They don't come much more SoCal than me.
