I've found private sellers to be much worse than the worst used car salesman much of the time. I look at a lot of cars for sale and somehow cannot seem to learn my lesson about not traveling to see one that I haven't seen good pictures of. I've been burned for plane tickets and a LOT of fuel, not to mention time. It can be just too tempting to check something out.

I've also been burned by not trusting photos when they indicate a panel that's been refinished and does not quite match. Those pics never lie, IME.
