I didn't think it was necessary, but I suspect the police said that in order to get this guy to stop his antics. I think instead it just worked him up more.
But if he would have confronted me again, I suspect he would have gotten physical, given the chip he had on his shoulder. I'm probably about 100 lbs heavier than him, so I was not too worried. That said, I don't appreciate people threatening me verbally. He threatened me verbally, and got verbally reprimanded by the police, so I'd say that was a fair court.
