When you start seeing Revolver magazine at the dentist's office, it might be mainstream. It's a niche, even if it's a good size one.
But you're right that these two bands aren't the deep underground "you've-never-heard-of-them-and-if-you-did-they'd-no-longer-be-cool" indy bands either.
Neither In This Moment nor Halestorm are my favorite bands. Just though of the song "Blood" as one most people haven't heard but might find neat.
Oh Haha brought up Halestorm, and being a "thread", things evolve. That's cool.
