I took my 14 yo nephew to raise for 2 years. Being a typical teen he would sit in chairs with his stinkin dirty bare foot up in the chair tucked under his leg. The cushions in all the chairs were starting to smell like his dirty feet.

Noticing him sitting with his foot tucked I asked if he wanted to learn why spanking works. He cautiously said okay. I pointed out that sitting on his foot like that was making the chairs stink and he agreed. I told him to pull his foot out, slap it as hard as he could so it would really sting and leave a red mark, then put is foot purposely down on the floor. He did. I told him the next time his brain tries to put his foot up, his foot will stop him.

It wasn't three minutes that he lifted his leg and started to sit on his foot again. He stopped and stared at his foot. I said see. He quickly slammed his foot down and was really quiet for a while.

Brain forgot what was right or wrong, pain memory helped the brain to remember. That is why spanking works.

I only got spanked by my parents 4 times that I can remember.

I couldn't spank a 14 yo to stop his rebellious behavior. I explain how obeying rules and doing what he was asked would earn the privileges gained by trust and how not doing those things, back talking, and being rebellious he would lose those privileges and trust. Finally as a last resort I had to threaten to and kill him. I ignored him for 3 weeks. Didn't include him when fixing meals, stopped making sure he got up to go to school, turned off lights and tv when I left the room, basically acted like he was no longer there. The first week he thought it was fun. The second week he thought there was something wrong with me. It took the 3rd week before he figured out what he had done wrong and apologized. He was a joy to have around after that and very quickly realized not being rebellious got him a lot more.
