To the OP, recovering the seat for $500 seems like a terrible idea. You could get an entire interior out of a wrecked car for that. Local Pick-A-Part places always seem to have 850/v70s on the lots, then there are the volvo forums, and lastly ebay and craiglist.

I happen to think a nice 850R is worth keeping, I have had mine for a bit over a year and it is a nearly flawless daily driver. They are cheap to buy, not difficult to maintain, have some of the best seats around, and with a mild tune are more than fun for the daily grind.
