Point is, Microsoft is making inroads into the phone and hardware spaces. Enter this Surface RT device. It's hardware is MUCH better than an ipad, while competing on price. the Surface RT has a kickstand. It has a keyboard cover. It even has an SD slot and HDMI out w/o the need of some barnacle adapter.
You have to give credit to their small hardware team for that device. ...unless you haven't seen one, and Steve Jobs is your god.

I commend MS for some of the innovations re: kickstand, ports, and cover, but if the functionality/UI is klunky, it is still a failure. It's like a luxury car that doesn't run properly. Still going to be a bad user experience. And I am no worshipper of Apple.
There is a convergence of tech companies where Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are starting to overlap and tread into each other's sacred/traditional space. Consumers and shareholders don't care what a company's traditional role in the marketplace used to be. They want to know and expect relevancy now.
