My wife and I have had dogs in our home for over 19 years. Shoot, we got our first dog while we were engaged. In January we put our last dog down at 16 years old. Am I ready for another, hell now. Is she, oh yes... am I getting pressure, oh yes... Am I giving in, no!

I had to put our last little boy down by myself while she was out of town for work. It still brings tears to my eyes just sitting here and typing this.

I love dogs to death but the love and commitment takes a long time to heal from after loosing them. My wife is traveling 70% with her job right now so that has been the only saving grace for me, for us to not get a new pair of babies in the house.

Enjoy the empty nester status you have now. I know we are.

Oh, and try doggysitting for a friend if they travel or go out of town, thats what we have been doing lately and it is a great fix for my wife.

The suggestion of being a doggy foster parent is a great one, just be careful that your girls don't fall in love with one of them and keep em.....
