I eat out all the time. On vacation I love trying hole in the wall BBQ restaurants. I don't think I have had FP since I was a kid. I survived many long years as a single dude eating week old leftovers.

My great uncle was very cheap. He did not want to run the refrigerator and he would buy a 5 lb package of hamburger and put it on the counter. He would cook it when he got hungry. He had a tin plate that he would just wipe off and turn over after each meal. He did that for many many years.

I did get nauseous a few hours after surgery for my hip replacement. I urped a little into a bucket. About 10 minutes later lunch arrived and I ate it with no problem.
I normally eat a fairly wide variety of foods and have a great appetite. It's really strange not to eat...I had a bagel w/ cream cheese this am and otherwise nothing for ~48 hours. I still can't think about food w/o getting nauseous.

No offense to your family, but your uncle was mentally ill. to eat rancid food in order to "save money" is sick. What did he believe in spending on? Ambulance rides? Hookers and blow?
