Most of the time the male part has a crack due to poor design.
I've seen 8 of them cracked. They work for a while, but its usually a combination of things that need fixing.
Have replaced a few with an entire original part with key lock, then just put that key on my key rings rather than rekey.
The non alarm version is affordable.
The jelly part can be replaced with an aftermarket part molded from plastic that is superior.
I've got a couple of these installed if you need a picture.
The plastic catch sometimes wears too. Old cars.
