I was going to respond to the original thread by saying that my wife does not have "hobbies". She likes to work in her garden but I think that's more to keep the house looking presentable than a hobby.
She claims she like to paint but I never see her doing it. I think hobbies are more a male thing. Women develop interests in areas that appeal to them but men's involvements more quickly become passions -almost obsessions- for things like cars etc. Women find meaning in relationships, men do as well but not to the degree that women do. Cars somehow captivate us, for others it's planes, model trains etc. We get great pleasure from these things, they don't require an emotional outlay from us- just cash and time. Cars are almost an extension of our personalities.
So, when we say it's a male thing, that may be more true than we realize.
Please feel free to ignore the above rant.
I'm just trying to make sense of this 911 thing that has captivated me for 25 years.
I'll probably never understand it.That's fine too.
