D, very sad to see that your Lab is not well, I had a few labs in my younger days, (used to breed them) and I had one lovely Lab called Sugar, and she lived for 15 years and 11 months, we had to have her put down in the end because she just kept going, but her bones were no longer capable of holding her up. She had already had the femoral head removed, as it was so arthritic, but in the end it was kinder to let her go. We had a lovely final day, she had a lovely bath, and massage on a lovely sunny day, and a vet friend come to our house, and gave her a mild sedative first, then the rest, it was such a sad day.

I had my lab from the age of 16 to just over 30, so I know exactly how you feel, she had been everywhere with me, even hitch hiking around Oz, lived through the hard times of no job (she had to go semi-vegetarian as I didn't have enough to buy dog food!) she would eat anything I put in front of her, even watermelon skins, lol. I loved her so much, but sadly they just don't live forever.

But my advice D, (I was also a vet assistant/nurse back in the day before the Air Force), is to let the old dear live out its life, with only pain relievers as required, no operation, no chemo, 15 is a good age for a Lab.

My heart goes out to you and your family, its a tough decision.
