Talk about karma...OK so last year as you all remember my band was to open for Tommy Castro and The Painkillers at a club in ohio. However, I had my stroke two days before the show and the band had to do it with another bassist.
Well.....Tommy was returning to the same venue last night....one year later almost to the day.
It gets better....
Monday the bassist from Tommy's band contacted the promoter, who I know, saying that he needed to find a bass rig locally for the show as his was in the tour bus that was stranded in NJ after the storm. The promoter called me, gave me his number, I called Randy the bass player told him it was cool and I would deliver.
So Sam my drummer who's birthday happened to be yesterday and I, went to deliver the cab and see the show. Now Tommy also knows Sam. We all meet, they move my cab, we have dinner together and few laughs, we go to sound check, smoke cigars and we all have a good time at the show.
So in the middle of his encore...Tommy thanks me publicly for my generosity, and says happy birthday to Sam. Then says "Come on up here boys". Sam sits at the cans, Tommy says to me "my voice is really tired, can you sing"? I said yes and called Hootchie Cootchie Man in A and count it off, and we ended the night with a great crowd response......so in the end...I DID share the stage with Tommy just one year and a stroke later....so cool.
Thanks Tommy....
