pilot bearing question
i have a 78 3.0 motor that i rebuilt and am buttoning everything up. I went to install the pilot bearing, and on my 82 motor, the bolts are M8 (I think), the threads on the crank on this 78 are M4 (verified with a tap). I know that I have used this motor, and the only flywheels I have are all set up for the 3 bolt pilot bearing (instead of the press fit). I know that I did not ever have a press fit flywheel ( i have 3, a lightweight, and 2 stock ones) pilot bearing. I'm stumped. I could use m4 bolts with washers, but there would be a hell of alot of play and I figure the bolts would just shear off if the bearing moves (even thought its a tight fit in the flywheel itself), i could drill out the current holes to M8's (or what ever the proper size is) but i don't like that idea, as I'm not sure that would work properly, or i could machine some aluminum spacers to fill in the m8 to m4 bolts and go that way... anyone have any idea what I have here. The flywheels all bolt up properly, and there is the small protrusion in the center where the pilot bearing would sit flush with the flywheel.
